“Peebles An American Family” has focused on my grandfather Dudley Guilford Peebles III, what has not been revealed here is the role that my grandmother Lucille Ruffin Peebles had in this proud family.

My grandfather, as strong and wise as he was, would never have made it as far as he did in life without Lucille Ruffin. Lucille was the foundation in the Peebles family. Most believe that Dudley made the day to day decisions in that family, he did not. Lucille ran the Peebles's house and did a remarkable job. Lucille worked the fields alongside the men, she dispersed the discipline and when needed she listened to our problems. Lucille Ruffin Peebles, my grandmother, was a strong, good woman and I loved her soo much.
